NBL Clarifies Late Foul Ruling

The NBL confirmed the late-game ruling from Tasmania’s 96-91 win over South East Melbourne on Sept. 21. With Phoenix trailing 91-89, Skylar Mays independently attempted a free throw intended for teammate D’Shawn Schwartz, so the shot was cancelled and Tasmania received possession under Rule 45.4.3. NBL Head of Referees Scott Butler said officials could have corrected the error if they had directed the wrong player to shoot, but no review mechanism applied in the final two minutes. The ruling involved the new Disruptive Foul rules introduced for NBL27. Whether further guidance will follow is not stated.
